Terms of Service

Plain-English Summary

You're getting a video highlight player, not a summarizer. We don't download videos — we watch them with you, skipping the boring parts. Free users get 5 highlight watches per day, up to 15 per month (videos under 150 min); without an account you get 2 per day (videos under 30 min). Paid users get more. Don't misuse the service. If something breaks, we're not liable for losses beyond what you paid us in the last 3 months.

By using Highlightly ("Service", "we", "us", or "our") at highlightly.co, through the Chrome extension, or through the WhatsApp bot, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please stop using the Service.

Acceptance of Terms

These Terms form a binding agreement between you and Highlightly. By creating an account or using the Service in any way, you confirm that you are at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) and have the legal capacity to enter this agreement.

Description of Service

Highlightly identifies the most important segments of YouTube videos using AI and plays them in sequence, automatically skipping filler content. You watch the actual video — only the highlights — saving 40–60% of watch time on average.

The Service is available through:

  • A web application at highlightly.co.
  • A Chrome/Firefox extension that injects a "Highlights" button into YouTube pages.
  • A WhatsApp bot that returns a playback link for any YouTube URL you share.

The Service does not download, redistribute, or permanently store video content. We operate within the YouTube IFrame API terms of service. YouTube's player delivers the video; we control what parts of the timeline play.

Accounts and Eligibility

  • You may use the guest trial (2 free watches per day, for videos up to 30 minutes) without an account.
  • A Highlightly account is required for Watch History, Notes, Collections, and paid plans.
  • You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • One account per person. Do not create accounts programmatically or share accounts with multiple people.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Attempt to download, scrape, capture, or extract video content via the Service.
  • Circumvent quota limits through multiple accounts or technical means.
  • Use the Service to process videos to which you do not have a lawful right to view.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or scrape the Service's API or source code.
  • Inject malicious code or attempt to compromise the security of the Service or its users.
  • Use the WhatsApp bot for automated bulk processing (more than 5 requests per minute).
  • Resell, sublicense, or white-label access to the Service without our prior written consent.

Violation of these restrictions may result in immediate account termination without refund.

Subscriptions and Payments

Free tier

The Free tier provides 5 highlight watches per calendar day and 15 per calendar month, whichever limit you reach first (videos ≤ 150 minutes original duration). No payment or credit card is required.

Pro and Max plans are billed monthly or yearly via Razorpay. By subscribing you authorise us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis at the agreed price until you cancel. Prices shown at checkout may be in INR or USD based on your location.

When you are charged

Your first charge is taken when you subscribe, and then on each renewal date until you cancel. There is no trial period on paid plans. If you want to try the Service before paying, use the Free tier — it is available indefinitely, needs no card, and uses the same highlight engine as the paid plans.

Refunds

Subscription charges are not refundable. Cancelling does not trigger a refund: when you cancel, your paid period runs to its end and you keep every feature of your plan until then, so there is no unused time to refund. We do not refund partial subscription periods.

The one exception is a billing error on our side — a duplicate charge, or a charge taken after you cancelled. Email billing@highlightly.co, we will review it, and we will refund an incorrect charge.

Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time from Settings → Billing. Your subscription then stops renewing and access continues until the end of the current paid billing period. Cancellation cannot be reversed — to return afterwards, start a new subscription.

Intellectual Property

  • Highlightly's IP: the source code, interface, brand, and AI prompt design belong to Highlightly and are protected by copyright and applicable intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms grants you a licence to copy or redistribute them.
  • Your content: notes you write in the Service remain yours. By saving them you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store and display them to you.
  • YouTube content: video content is owned by its creators and is licensed to viewers by YouTube. Highlightly does not claim any ownership over YouTube videos. Use of the Service is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service.

Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal data and is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that:

  • The Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at any particular time.
  • AI-generated highlights will capture every important moment or meet your personal expectations.
  • The Service will be compatible with all devices, browsers, or network environments.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Highlightly's total cumulative liability for any claims arising from or related to these Terms or the Service is limited to the greater of USD $10 or the total amount you paid us in the 3 months immediately preceding the claim.

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including loss of profits, data, reputation, or goodwill — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, abuse the Service, or if we are required to do so by law. We will provide reasonable notice where possible.

You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Data → Delete account. Upon termination, your access ends immediately and your personal data is purged within 7 days as described in our Privacy Policy.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally shall be submitted to the courts of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Users in the EU/EEA may also bring claims before the courts of their country of residence.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. When we make material changes we will notify registered users by email at least 14 days before the effective date and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
